  • We hope to find at least 17 endemic species, plus
    Antillean/Caribbean specialties and migratory species
    (seasonal).
  • We will have the opportunity to see different  habitats around
    the Island, from a rain to  dry and mangrove forest.  A
    minimum of 14 birding spots, including additional stops
    whenever I hear a bird on the road.  
  • Depends on the season, we will be out at night two or three
    times looking for the PR Screech Owl, PR Nightjar, or the
    Antillean Nightjar.
  • Experience culture and local cuisine with a sustainable
    tourism approach while exploring the Island with a
    personalized trip and a local resident Certified Interpretive
    Driver/Guide.

ITINERARY
  • Day 1 - Arrival, meet & greet.  Arrival not later than 2 PM.  We will
    drive east to our hotel for the next two nights, Hotel Yunque Mar
    in Luquillo.  We start with an evening birding trip to El Yunque
    National Forest looking for some of our first endemics:  
    Bullfinch, Tanager, and Spindalis, Green Mango.  As night
    arrives, we will start our nocturnal walk in search of our Screech
    Owl, glow in the dark fungi and newborn coquis).

  • Day 2 - Full day birding trip at El Yunque National Forest for the
    following endemics:  Tody,  Lizard Cuckoo, Oriole,
    Woodpecker, Elfin-woods Warbler, Flycatcher, and Emerald.  
    A Sunset Bio-Lagoon Kayak Tour will allow you to admire
    another type of glow in the dark, this time, a microorganism in
    the water.

  • Day 3 - Hummingbird Morning!  Our goal of the morning will be
    the little Antillean Crested Hummingbird, Green-throated Carib,
    Antillean Mango, plus the Puerto Rican Emerald.  After check-
    out we will drive to the North Belt region looking for the Greater
    Flamingo, Caribbean Coot, and Tropicbirds (seasonal).  Night
    on your own.  We will stay for one night in Hatillo.

  • Day 4 - Early morning drive to the Cordillera Central (Central
    Mountain Range) in search of the Puerto Rican Parrot..  We will
    drive to Parador Villa Parguera where we will stay for three
    nights.  Evening and night on your own.

  • Day 5 - Early morning trip to the salt flats looking for shorebirds,
    Yellow-shouldered Blackbird, Venezuelan Troupial, Antillean
    race of the Clapper Rail, and Caribbean Elaenia.  Picnic lunch
    (including fresh pineapples and papaya) on our way to Laguna
    Cartagena.  Before dinner, we will go on the quest for the Puerto
    Rican Nightjar.

  • Day 6 - In the morning we will look for endemics, and the Bridled
    Quail-Dove, at the Maricao Forest and the Fish Hatchery.  Our
    target of the day is the Elfin Woods Warbler (in case we missed
    it at El Yunque).    Evening and night on your own.  

  • Day 7 - After check-out we will go again to the Guánica Forest for
    the Adelaide´s Warbler and Antillean Euphonia.  We will
    continue our journey to the South looking for the Plain Pigeon.  
    Overnight on selected hotel in Isla Verde or San Juan.

  • Day 8 - Optional Old San Juan Historical Walking Tour  Transfer
    to airport in the morning.
