on 2009 for a possible new endemic species.  Now
awaiting for additional research.

  • Endemic to Puerto Rico, Mona and Monito Islands.
  • The race of Mona Island has paler wing patches.
  • 8 - 9 inches
  • glossy black with yellow shoulder patches and pointed bill
  • male and female have similar plumage
  • immatures duller with brown abdomen, yellow patch is lighter than adults
  • Habitat:  primary mangrove and scrublands
