  • Formerly known as Stripe-headed Tanager (Spindalis zena).
  • This territorial bird can be found at almost all elevations wherever fruit is readily
    available.
  • 6.5 inches
  • male:  black head striped white above and below the eye, underparts primarily
    yellow; green back, reddish-orange wash on breast, orange neck collar
  • female:  dull olive green, underparts dull whitish, gray streaks on sides and
    flanks; whitish mustache stripe, inconspicuous white eyebrow stripe
  • immatures black replaced by greenish
  • Habitat:  woodlands and forests at all elevations
