The Orange-fronted Parakeet (below) is one of the birds that can be found at the
parking of  El Portal Visitors Center in El Yunque.  If you look closely to the pictures to
the left, the eye ring is yellow, the Puerto Rican R Parrot´s  eye ring (top) is white.  
Many people are saying that they have spotted the PR Parrot at El Portal but they have
had a real encounter with this parakeet.

Although these pictures were taken at the Mayagüez Zoo, these parrots and macaw have been introduced in Puerto Rico.
With the exception of the endemic
Puerto Rican Parrot, the species
occurring in the region have been
introduced, primarily as a result of
caged birds escaping.
